Gong Lab - Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist

About the role

The Gong Lab at UCSF is seeking a Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist to contribute to new and ongoing projects focusing on the discovery of novel molecules that govern cell decisions in neurobiology, immunology, and development. Specific interests include identifying proteins and lipids that regulate ER-PM contacts formation and developing innovative reporters for live-cell imaging.

Responsibilities

• Conduct molecular and cell biological techniques such as molecular cloning, tissue culture, CRISPR-mediated gene editing, automated live-cell imaging, flow cytometry, and quantitative analysis.
• Contribute to core research efforts in the lab, including designing and leading independent projects, developing new ideas, presenting at lab meetings, and participating in procurement of funds.
• Assist with managing day-to-day lab operations and performing general lab duties.

Requirements

• Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience for the Junior rank.
• Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with three or more years of research experience for the Assistant rank.
• Must have (or be in the process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of research experience for the Associate rank.
• Must have (or be in the process of obtaining) a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of research experience for the Full rank.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
• Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in the design and assembly of DNA constructs.
• Prior experience in mammalian cell culture and genome manipulation (i.e. gene knockouts) and MATLAB-based analysis.

Salary Range

A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000-$194,800.
