About the role
Kentucky State Parks is seeking a Golf Course Superintendent to maintain and oversee Pennyrile Forest Park Golf Course in Dawson Springs, Kentucky. This hands-on leadership role involves managing a team of maintenance personnel to ensure an exceptional golfing experience for guests. Full-time employees are eligible for the Department of Parks "Park Familiarization Program."
Responsibilities
- Staff training and supervision
- Plant regulatory product applications
- Equipment operation
- Irrigation application, repair, and maintenance
- Golf course set-up activities
- Record keeping
Requirements
- Associate degree in plant science, turf management, or a related field
- One year of experience as a Golf Course Assistant Superintendent
- Valid driver’s license
- Must obtain Kentucky Pesticide Applicator License (N-18) within six months of employment
- Ability to work outdoors in various climatic conditions and handle potentially toxic materials (e.g., insecticides, fungicides, fertilizers)
Substitution: Three years as a golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent, combined with a Certificate of Turfgrass Management from an accredited university, can substitute for the required education.
Skills
- Experience operating all equipment and performing tasks associated with golf course maintenance
- Budget creation and management, including agronomic planning
- Strong communication skills
- Golf course construction/renovation experience (a plus)
- Attention to detail and time management
- Leadership, teamwork, and decision-making skills
- Preventative maintenance experience
Pay
$22.16 - $33.24 hourly (Pay Grade 14).
Schedule
37.5 hours per week.
