The Golf Starter / Ranger plays a vital role in delivering an exceptional golf experience for members and guests at The Sea Pines Resort. This position serves as an ambassador of hospitality by welcoming players, ensuring efficient pace of play, maintaining course etiquette and safety standards, and supporting the overall operation of the golf facility. The Starter/Ranger helps create a positive, memorable experience while preserving the quality and integrity of the golf course.
Responsibilities
- Welcome members and guests with genuine Southern hospitality and provide a warm, professional first impression.
- Verify tee times and ensure groups are properly scheduled and prepared for play.
- Communicate daily course conditions, local rules, pace-of-play expectations, and any special instructions.
- Facilitate the timely and orderly start of play for all groups.
- Aid guests with questions regarding the golf course, facilities, and resort amenities.
- Foster positive relationships with members and guests while promoting The Sea Pines Resort service standards.
- Maintain accurate records and logs of daily tee sheet activity and operational information.
- Communicate effectively with the Golf Shop and outside operations staff to ensure a seamless guest experience.
Ranger
- Patrol the golf course to ensure smooth pace of play and an enjoyable experience for all golfers.
- Monitor and assist groups to maintain established pace-of-play guidelines.
- Verify player registration and proper course access.
- Professionally address bottlenecks, slow play, and on-course concerns while maintaining a positive guest experience.
- Aid in resolving player questions regarding golf etiquette, course rules, and resort policies.
- Monitor course conditions and report safety hazards, maintenance concerns, or damaged areas to appropriate personnel.
- Encourage proper golf course care and respect for resort property.
- Respond appropriately to guest needs, including minor first-aid situations and emergency communication.
- Aid in locating and returning lost-and-found items.
- Deliver urgent messages to golfers when necessary.
- Maintain accurate logs of daily activities, incidents, and guest interactions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum 1-year of customer service, hospitality, golf operations, or related experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of the game of golf, golf etiquette, and pace-of-play expectations.
- Excellent interpersonal and guest-service skills.
- Ability to remain professional and composed when handling guest concerns or conflicts.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
- Regularly use hands and arms to handle equipment and perform job-related tasks.
- Sometimes bend, kneel, crouch, reach, balance, or climb.
- Lift and/or move: Up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and via radio.
- Ability to operate a golf cart safely and navigate the golf course terrain.
- Possess visual acuity sufficient to monitor play, inspect course conditions, and identify safety concerns.
Work Environment
- Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, sun, wind, and rain.
- Regular operation of a golf cart throughout the course.
- Exposure to typical golf course conditions and terrain.
- Weekend, holiday, and flexible scheduling availability is required based on business needs.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid driver's license required.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or ability to obtain certification upon hire).
