GOLF CLUB STARTER & RANGER
About the role
This position involves performing a variety of duties as a care taker of the Duke University Golf Club grounds. Duties include safely operating and maintaining golf course maintenance equipment, understanding OSHA safety rules, and complying with Duke University employee work rules and policies.
Responsibilities
- Develop expertise through training on numerous pieces of equipment including power mowers, rotary and reel mowers, utility vehicles, backhoes, front-end loaders, top dressers, roto-tillers, spray rigs, and irrigation equipment.
- Inspect and operate golf course mechanical and power-driven equipment to ensure they are in tournament-ready condition.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment as needed or directed, including cleaning, changing oil, lubricating, and painting.
- Apply herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, and fertilizer to the grounds according to supervisor’s instruction and/or established schedules.
- Work as a team member while providing leadership on various maintenance duty assignments.
- Establish and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Maintain excellent job-related communication with fellow workers, team leaders, and supervisors.
Requirements
Education/Training: Requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school diploma with course work in skilled crafts or trades training.
Experience: Requires 1 year of experience in maintaining grounds and landscape to acquire knowledge in the operation and maintenance of grounds and landscape equipment.

Pay
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $20.00 to USD $24.10. Details about pay are available at: https://hr.duke.edu/benefits/
