GN&C Engineer

Location: NASA Johnson Space Center

Status: Full Time

Responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate safety‑critical flight software.
• Develop, integrate, and test GN&C algorithms.
• Utilize MATLAB/Simulink/Autocode skills to update GN&C flight software.
• Utilize Python & C/C++ skills to analyze and test GN&C flight software.
• Validate and verify GN&C algorithms and requirements.
• Provide recommendations for improvements of flight software, its processes and procedures.
• Perform deep‑dive analyses of flight and simulation software.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with experience in the field or a related area (typically required).
• Significant knowledge of GN&C.
• Experience with development and analysis of 6‑DOF algorithms and simulations.
• Proficiency with C/C++ and Python.
• Familiarity with validation and verification of GN&C algorithms and requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees.

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in engineering with 3 years or more experience, or a PhD in engineering or a related field.
• Significant experience with C, C++, and Python.
• Significant experience with MATLAB, including Simulink, Stateflow, and Autocode.
• Safety and flight‑critical embedded software development experience.
• Experience with source code control and continuous integration.
• Agile software development experience.
• Experience in the following flight‑software specialty areas:
  • GN&C software development
  • Software process and procedure development
  • Software integration and build management
• Experience with Kalman filters, neural networks, UDU factorization and/or advanced smoothers.
• Knowledge of artificial intelligence and/or machine learning.
• Experience with TRICK/JEOD simulation architecture.
