GMW Eagan Exam Station / General Maintenance Wrkr
This position is responsible for maintaining the exam station building and surrounding grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for the public and exam station staff. The successful candidate must be able to travel reliably between exam station locations to perform essential job duties, including delivering and picking up supplies, transporting state vehicles and equipment for maintenance, and supporting operational needs at multiple sites. This position requires the operation of a motor vehicle to access work sites, transport equipment, and respond to service needs. Candidates must be able to safely operate a vehicle and possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
The Department of Public Safety is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas. Applicants must be eligible to work in the States at the start of employment. DPS does not participate in E-Verify.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the exam station building and surrounding grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment.
- Travel between exam station locations to deliver and pick up supplies, transport state vehicles and equipment for maintenance, and support operational needs.
- Operate a motor vehicle to access work sites, transport equipment, and respond to service needs.
- Perform minor repairs using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with staff and the public in fluent English.
- Work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.
Requirements
- Knowledge of proper cleaning procedures using chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents, and soaps, including selection, handling, application, and safe disposal.
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance to use effectively, operate safely, and make minor repairs.
- Ability to read, write, and respond to customers in fluent English.
- Basic computer experience.
- Valid and active Class D (basic) driver’s license.
- Successful completion of a background investigation, including criminal history, reference check, and driver's license verification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five (5) years of driving experience with a good driving record.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations.
- Excellent attendance and dependability.
- Graduate of a public sector training program such as Project for Pride in Living, HIRED, Goodwill Easter Seals, Twin Cities Rise, Takoda, Hmong American Partnership, CLUES, or similar DEED-sponsored workforce development programs.
- Willingness to work regularly scheduled weekend hours.
Physical Requirements
- Occasionally move and transport 50-pound items.
- Frequently move and transport objects such as heavy tools and file boxes.
- May require positioning self to move across rough terrain or maintain a stationary position for extended periods.
Pay
$20.87 - $25.88 / hourly; $43,576 - $54,037 / annually
Schedule
- Day Shift: 07:00 AM - 3:30 PM
- Days of Work: Monday - Friday
