Global Trade Compliance and Logistics Director
Position Overview
The Global Trade Compliance and Logistics Leader is a new SubCom position that will work across the end-to-end supply and value chain to deliver precision, velocity, and quality results.
Responsibilities
Develop SubCom trade compliance strategy aligned with the company’s objectives, expected growth, supply chain, and regulatory requirements
Advises senior leadership and other key stakeholders on risks, emerging multi-local regulations and US trade compliance requirements
Builds and develops a global trade and logistics team, ensuring effective, documented core processes and standards, and a continuous improvement environment
Maintains strong partnerships across the enterprise with legal, supply chain, factory and fleet operations, project management, planning, finance, tax, and commercial teams
Provides direction on tariff optimization strategies, free trade agreements (FTAs), de minimis rules, and duty savings opportunities
Ensures compliance with country of origin, tariff classification, and customs valuation requirements
Creates and maintains a database (one version of the truth) of SubCom HTS codes and audit trail for previous shipments
Maintains SubCom company policies and their interaction with global policies on anti-boycott laws, trade sanctions and restricted party screening
Leads on US Federal Contracting requirements from a trade compliance perspective
Leads proactive assessments of US trade compliance risks and oversees corrective action plans
Creates a global logistics capability and support ecosystem that includes factory logistics, project management logistics, fleet logistics, and multi-local staging and distribution operations
Develops a sourcing strategy for global logistics service providers linked to SubCom operations, business plan, and global trade compliance requirements
Maintains optionality and flexibility pursuant to production, installation and ship schedules
Improves and maintains cost, performance, and quality of execution
Develops and maintains a strong external US trade compliance network across industry associations, government agencies, and peer companies to stay abreast of regulatory developments and best practices
Represents the company with external authorities in the US (e.g., CBP, BIS, OFAC, HMRC) and during trade audits or investigations
Advise business leaders and supply chain teams on US geopolitical, regulatory, and tariff impacts to global sourcing and distribution strategy
Reviews and ensures the implementation of US policies, controls, and procedures to ensure compliance across all import/export activities
Oversight for the development and delivery of training programs for employees and management on trade compliance obligations
Supports trade data analytics, reporting, and metrics to monitor program effectiveness
Implements continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, reduce risk, and enhance global trade efficiency
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in International Trade, Law, Business, Supply Chain Management or a related field is preferred
Minimum 15 years of experience in global trade compliance; experience of a leadership role within a multinational organization preferred
Proven experience within the U.S. CBP environment and familiarity with CBP rulings, audits, and enforcement processes
Strong understanding of US customs laws, country of origin rules, classification, valuation, and tariff regimes
Expertise in US boycott regulations, export controls, and sanctions compliance
Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing US tradecompliance programs
Demonstrated leadership with global logistics sourcing, 3PL services, and working with multi-local service providers
Advanced team building and leadership skills working across various work groups
Experience and demonstrated leadership with global logistics sourcing, 3PL services, and working with multi-local service providers
Existing external network within the US trade compliance community (industry groups, CBP, legal and consulting professionals)
Advanced skills working across people, process, information, technology, partnership, and governance domains
Experience and ability to navigate disparate systems to obtain, manipulate, format, and communicate data that tells a story
Experience in manufacturing, telecommunications, high-tech preferred
Eternally curious with the desire and ability to conduct market, industry, and subject matter research
