Global Planetary Magnetosphere Simulations
About the role
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) seeks to recruit postdoctoral researchers to conduct global planetary magnetosphere simulations. This opportunity combines the fields of Heliophysics, Astrophysics, and Planetary Science.
Responsibilities
Postdoctoral researchers will focus on simulating the magnetospheres of planets within our solar system and beyond. The simulations will explore various aspects of magnetospheric physics, such as structure, dynamics, and interactions with other planetary systems. They will also investigate auroral responses, asymmetries, moon-magnetosphere interactions, and the suitability of these environments for supporting life.
Requirements
- Detailed knowledge in the use and interpretation of major types of magnetospheric and/or solar wind data.
- Experience and proficiency in utilizing and developing data-analysis or modeling tools for space physics data.
- A doctoral degree in a relevant field.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident status.
- Eligibility for an Exchange Visitor J-1 visa status for foreign nationals.
- Applicants for LPR, asylees, or refugees who are in the U.S. at the time of application and have valid EAD cards and pending I-485 or I-589 forms.
Skills
- Strong background in magnetospheric physics and space plasma physics.
- Experience with data analysis and modeling tools.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Benefits
- One to three-year fellowship opportunities.
- Unique research experiences at NASA Centers, Headquarters, or affiliated research institutes.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
Pay
Salary range: $75,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
