Global HSE& Sustainability Business Leader
About the role
As a Global HSE & Sustainability Business Partner, you will work across Baker Hughes’ global Power Transmission operations to shape our Health, Safety, and Environment strategy. You will collaborate closely with operational leaders, integrating HSE into business decision-making, and driving a culture where safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement are at the core of how we work. You will also lead, coach, and mentor HSE professionals worldwide, developing future leaders and building a consistent standard of excellence across our organization.
Responsibilities
- Partnering with operations and functional leadership across multiple geographies to embed HSE into day-to-day decisions, long-term strategies, and performance metrics.
- Leading the global deployment and governance of the Baker Hughes HSE Management System, ensuring robust environmental compliance with ISO 14001/45001, sustainability frameworks, and applicable local, regional, and international regulations.
- Establishing and enforcing environmental governance frameworks, including standards, procedures, and controls, to ensure consistent compliance, risk management, and performance across all sites and operations.
- Overseeing environmental compliance programs, including permitting, regulatory reporting, inspections, and engagement with regulatory authorities, while ensuring full compliance and proactive risk mitigation.
- Driving environmental risk management by identifying environmental aspects and impacts (e.g., air emissions, waste, water, and chemicals), implementing controls, and verifying their effectiveness across global operations.
- Providing people leadership, coaching, and mentoring to HSE Specialists and Leads across the globe, while fostering a high-performing and collaborative team culture.
- Leading environmental assurance activities, including audits, compliance reviews, and due diligence assessments, ensuring timely closure of findings and sustained regulatory alignment.
- Driving change by applying Kaizen, Lean, and Root Cause Analysis methodologies to improve performance and accelerate corrective actions, including those related to environmental incidents and non-compliances.
- Facilitating Learning Teams and applying Human Performance principles to transform incidents, including environmental events, into organizational learning opportunities.
- Championing sustainability and decarbonization initiatives by supporting carbon reduction, resource efficiency, waste minimization, circularity, and environmental stewardship programs.
- Overseeing global HSE performance monitoring, including environmental KPIs (e.g., emissions, waste, water, and compliance metrics), analyzing trends, and influencing executive stakeholders through actionable insights and recommendations.
- Collaborating with Supply Chain, Engineering, and ESG leaders to advance safety, decarbonization, environmental compliance, and sustainability programs.
Requirements
- Have 10 years of progressive HSE experience or similar leadership experience across global, multi-site operations, preferably within the energy, oil & gas, or heavy industry sectors.
- Have a strong ability to drive cultural change and partner with senior leaders to embed HSE practices into daily operations.
- Have extensive knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, management systems, environmental management systems, and global regulatory compliance frameworks, including permitting, reporting, and governance requirements.
- Have expertise in Kaizen, Lean methodologies, Root Cause Analysis techniques (5-Why, ICAM, TapRooT), and continuous improvement frameworks.
- Have proven experience leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing HSE teams across diverse regions and cultures.
- Have obtained a professional HSE certification, such as NEBOSH, CSP, CMIOSH, or an equivalent qualification.
- Have strong communication skills, enabling effective engagement across cultures and organizational levels; possess fluency in English, with additional language proficiency being an advantage.
- Have the willingness and flexibility to travel internationally up to 30–40% of the time.
Qualifications
- Have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Safety Studies, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
- Be certified in relevant HSE qualifications, such as NEBOSH, CSP, CMIOSH, or equivalent.
