About the role

As the Glaze Prep Technician, you will provide a variety of support including following the quality management system, scheduling batching, and managing raw material inventory. The primary objective is ensuring team member and machine safety, along with efficient operational and maintenance activities focused around digital inkjet printing machines.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all safety protocols throughout the plant and department are adhered to.
  • Drive world-class housekeeping in glaze prep and the batching plant.
  • Follow the Quality Management System for all operating procedures and practice instructions; collaborate with the Quality Department to create needed procedures.
  • Manage daily, weekly, and monthly glaze prep needs from the batching plant and raw materials.
  • Plan and schedule batching plant orders from sister plants.
  • Conduct month-end raw material inventory counts for all glaze line, glaze prep, and batching plant materials.
  • Work with purchasing and vendors for glaze prep raw material orders.
  • Train new hires and existing team members on the safe and efficient operation of machines in glaze prep and batching.
  • Collaborate with operational and maintenance teams to develop and sustain operator basic care programs.
  • Provide fill-in and relief support for all glazing prep and batching functions, and assist glaze lines for glaze needs.
  • Perform daily and weekly reviews of mills and mill times to maintain high efficiency levels.
  • Potential for call-in support if the in-house team cannot meet process needs.
  • Perform all other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years of manufacturing experience.
  • Dal-Tile level II or level III glazing certification, or 18 months+ experience in the ceramic tile industry with a strong background in machine effectiveness.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of safety policy and procedures.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Strong knowledge of glaze line and quality standards, and overall ceramic manufacturing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
