GIS Technician (I to Senior)
Job Summary/Purpose
Support the design, maintenance, and accuracy of Entergy's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) by updating electronic facility records, performing data analysis, and maintaining spatial data used to support engineering, construction, maintenance, and operations.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Design, update, and maintain electronic facility and maintenance information systems using GE Smallworld, ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and related GIS applications.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of as-built designs and construction projects to ensure the accuracy of the electric distribution GIS model.
- Maintain spatial data, generate maps and reports, and prepare data analysis and status reports.
- Support engineering, construction, maintenance, damage prevention, and conflict resolution activities by providing GIS data and technical support.
- Conduct field walkdowns to validate facilities and identify subsurface conflicts.
- Train and support users in GIS applications and editing processes.
- Aid in storm and outage restoration efforts as needed.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Technology or a Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geosciences, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Two years of experience using GE Smallworld, ESRI ArcGIS, or vector/raster rendering systems, or equivalent academic experience.
- Experience using ESRI ArcGIS, GE Smallworld, and other GIS applications.
- Knowledge of GIS principles, coordinate systems, geography, and asset management.
- Experience with computer programming languages such as Python and SQL, along with databases and PC applications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively in both office and field environments.
- Ability to support emergency response activities, including late hours, callouts, weekends, and storm restoration.
- Ability to lead GIS data research projects and train other employees.
