GIS Support Specialist

About the role

A GIS Support Specialist is needed to assist the GIS Coordination Program Manager in implementing GICC initiatives. Key responsibilities include supporting 6 subcommittees and working groups, writing documentation, creating and updating geospatial datasets, and managing data.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, developing, and evaluating Council policies, strategies, and initiatives
• Write charters, technical reports, updates, minutes, framework dataset schemas, and website designs
• Research technical solutions, create and update geospatial datasets, and create online content including applications and websites
• Compile data from multiple sources, automate data edits using scripting or automation tools, and quality check data for publication
• Communicate with working group members to document application or website needs, research solutions to implementation, and report options to the working group

Requirements

• Experience using Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop suite of applications, including ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro
• Strong understanding of how to edit and maintain GIS data in the Esri ArcGIS suite of products
• Expertise in data visualization and cartography to help explain patterns and issues and producing static GIS maps for effective communication
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and experience in applying geospatial workflows and solutions, data management and analysis
• Exposure to and understanding of the fundamentals of online mapping tools and knowledge of NC OneMap

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience using Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop suite of applications, including ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro
• 3 years of strong understanding of how to edit and maintain GIS data in the Esri ArcGIS suite of products
• 3 years of expertise in data visualization and cartography to help explain patterns and issues and producing static GIS maps for effective communication
• 3 years of experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and experience in applying geospatial workflows and solutions, data management and analysis
• Highly desired 3 years of experience in an SDE versioned multi-user environment

Skills

• Experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online tools including Experience Builder, StoryMaps, Survey123, and other applications
• Ability to communicate with working group members to document application or website needs, research solutions to implementation, and report options to the working group
