GIS Specialist

About the role

Arcadis is seeking to hire a junior to mid-level part-time Cultural Resources Specialist with Geographic Information System (GIS) experience for a position in Asheville, North Carolina. The successful candidate will collaborate with a federal client, subcontractors, and the internal Arcadis project team on restoration efforts.

The role involves mapping, managing, and analyzing locations and other data for known and potential archaeological sites, historic structures, cultural landscapes, environmental settings, and other relevant information based on data provided by the project team. Familiarity with relevant GIS desktop applications is required, and experience working within this framework at the federal and North Carolina state levels is necessary.

The position is located in Asheville, North Carolina, with occasional field visits, including overnight travel to various restoration locations. Regular client and project meetings will also occur. This role sits within the Mobility Global Business Area and offers the opportunity to contribute to a long-term federal restoration project.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a qualified and experienced Cultural Resources Specialist with GIS experience.
• Assist and provide technical guidance to field and research teams to obtain data required for accurate mapping of cultural resource locations.
• Produce reports, figures, photographs, drawings, and other documents to meet project objectives.
• Complete assigned activities within budget, timeframe, and quality standards to ensure project integrity.
• Meet or exceed client objectives and expectations in compliance with Arcadis requirements and relevant national standards and codes of practice.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an appropriate area of science or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of general experience in cultural resources management, combining field- and office-based roles.
• 3 years of experience in archaeological fieldwork as a field technician.
• Participation in a field school.
• Demonstrated GIS experience including deploying GPS systems, ArcGIS Field Maps or Survey 123.
• Experience required in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, and Dashboards.
• Working knowledge of cultural resources management, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and North Carolina state guidelines, including standard archaeological survey methods.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience working with federal and state agencies.

• Good technical writing skills.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively under the supervision of senior staff.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $64,000 – $97,000. Actual salaries will vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
