GIS Professional Scientist – Denver, CO
About the role
Tetra Tech is adding an experienced GIS Professional Scientist to support a variety of environmental, energy, and natural resource projects in our Denver, Colorado office.
Responsibilities
- Perform GIS analyses supporting electric transmission, substation, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects.
- Develop routing evaluation models and conduct opportunities and constraints analyses for transmission corridors and alternative routes.
- Evaluate spatial datasets and classify, rank, and analyze routing alternatives.
- Perform geospatial analysis and data visualization to support environmental planning and permitting projects.
- Develop new ("greenfield") transmission routes across diverse landscapes and multiple jurisdictions.
- Create high-quality maps, exhibits, and figures using ArcGIS Pro for technical reports, permit applications, presentations, and field activities.
- Manage, maintain, and document geospatial databases and enterprise geodatabases using ESRI products.
- Compile and maintain metadata in accordance with FGDC and other applicable standards.
- Acquire, organize, and manage publicly available geospatial datasets supporting natural resource and permitting projects.
- Maintain high standards for data quality, organization, and documentation.
- Collect, process, correct, and manage GPS field data using ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, and related applications.
- Support mobile GIS data collection workflows and integration into enterprise databases.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, including environmental planners, engineers, biologists, and permitting specialists.
- Support routing, siting, permitting, and natural resource projects through GIS analysis and technical mapping.
- Ensure GIS deliverables meet project schedules, quality standards, and client expectations.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or a related discipline.
- Advanced proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Pro.
- Experience performing GIS-based routing and siting evaluations for electric transmission, renewable energy, or linear infrastructure projects.
- Experience with geospatial analysis, spatial modeling, database management, and cartographic production.
- Experience with enterprise geodatabases and ESRI geodatabase management.
- Experience collecting and managing GPS field data using ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of professional GIS experience, preferably supporting environmental, utility, energy, or infrastructure projects.
- Master's degree preferred.
Skills
- Experience with SQL databases, preferably Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience developing routing models and performing opportunities and constraints analyses.
- Familiarity with natural resources, environmental permitting, and regulatory processes.
- Experience supporting enterprise GIS environments and geospatial database administration.

Pay
Pay commensurate with experience. Pay Range: $70,000-$100,000 annually Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
Schedule
This position is based in Denver, Colorado, and is primarily office-based, with flexibility for occasional field work and travel as project needs require.
