GIS Mapper

About the role

Work location: 325 County Avenue, Secaucus, NJ 07094. This position maintains the GIS connected model for electric utility systems (not gas), performing data analysis, map production, and record management. The role operates in a union environment reporting to a supervisor, processing work orders into GIS and distributing updates. Approximately 5–10% of time may involve field work; if field work is required, the employee uses their own vehicle (minimal expectation).

Responsibilities

• Perform assignments related to recording or producing information associated with the construction, operation, and maintenance of Utility Systems.
• Maintain the GIS connected model with information from work management systems, as-built construction drawings, work orders, completion records, field reports, and other job sponsor sources.
• Perform analysis or queries to assemble data and prepare reports, tabulations, charts, and maps from asset information in the connected model and other data sources.
• Produce standard prints and ad-hoc plots for field requests containing specific information derived from the connected model and various data sources.
• Maintain service point data and the relationship to feeding source transformer.
• Track lifespan of utility asset data, including history, inspection records, and attachments.
• Resolve conflicting data, mapping, connectivity, and land issues through office or field investigation.
• Perform GIS work for major projects such as facility relocations, load rearrangement, and new business.
• Operate automated office equipment including printers, plotters, duplication machines, facsimile, and scanners.
• File records and data pertaining to the work.
• Perform manual or computer-aided drafting.
• Operate a car or light truck.
• Assist other employees in plant work, in the field, or in the office.
• Perform other similar skilled work as assigned.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of GIS experience (school or work-related).
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to operate motor vehicles in the state of New Jersey.
• Ability to work at various client locations based on business needs/workload.

Qualifications

• Ability to acquire thorough working knowledge of:
  • The company’s business applications.
  • Material, equipment, and apparatus used in the work.
  • The Utilities’ Transmission and Distribution systems.
  • Various operating and maintenance handbooks and manuals pertaining to the work, including safety rules and practices.
• Computer skills in MS Office and other Windows applications.
• GIS experience in any industry, with knowledge/understanding of updating GIS systems and how relationships work in GIS.
• MicroStation and AutoCAD experience is a strong plus.
• Open to candidates without utility experience if they have GIS application experience.
• Open to recent college graduates with GIS experience from school or internships.
