Clifton, NJ location. Contractors must be onsite every day for the first 6–12 weeks for training and must be able to commute once a week to a secondary location for print distributions.
About the Role
- Edit, update, and modify geospatial data within an electric-utility GIS model (no gas work).
- Perform analysis, create custom maps, and process work orders into GIS for print distribution.
- Work in a union environment under direct supervision.
- 5–10% of time may involve field work; minimal use of personal vehicle expected.
- Hybrid schedule introduced after 8+ weeks of onsite training, based on client needs and work assignments.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the GIS-connected model using data from work management systems, as-built drawings, work orders, completion records, and field reports.
- Perform queries and analysis to generate reports, tabulations, charts, and maps from asset information.
- Produce standard prints and ad-hoc plots for field requests.
- Maintain service-point data and its relationship to feeding-source transformers.
- Track utility-asset lifespan, including history, inspections, and attachments.
- Resolve conflicting data, mapping, connectivity, and land-base issues through office or field investigation.
- Support major projects such as facility relocations, load rearrangement, and new business.
- Operate office equipment (printers, plotters, scanners, etc.).
- File records and perform manual or computer-aided drafting.
- Assist other employees in plant, field, or office work as needed.
Requirements
- 1–2 years of GIS experience (school or work-related).
- Ability to update and edit GIS data; understanding of GIS relationships.
- Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD is a strong plus but not required.
- Must be able to work at various client locations based on business needs.
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Proficiency in MS Office and other Windows applications.
- Must meet the company’s general employment requirements.
Qualifications
- Open to recent college graduates with GIS experience from school or internships.
- Utility experience is not required if candidate has GIS application and relationship knowledge.
- Must acquire working knowledge of company business applications, utility materials/equipment, transmission and distribution systems, and relevant operating/maintenance handbooks and safety rules.
