GIS Analyst
About the role
The GIS Analyst will provide support to the 7th Special Forces Group and the 96th RANGE in collecting, editing, storing, and accessing geo-spatial data of the range environment and infrastructure. This support is crucial for the Eglin Range Commander (96TW/CC) and his staff to make informed decisions and gain situational awareness.
Responsibilities
- Supports the 7th Special Forces Group and the 96th RANGE in collecting, editing, storing, and accessing geo-spatial data of the range environment and infrastructure.
- Provides recommendations for military and natural resources data collection.
- Develops applications and manages automated and non-automated data.
- Manages internet access and use for the 7th Special Forces Group and the 96th RANGE.
- Provides Geographic Information System (GIS) support including hardware and software recommendations and setup, software and operating system technical support, data development, and acquisition and interpretation of remotely sensed imagery.
- Supports the Sustainable Range Program (SRP) and Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) programs, including RTLA, LRAM, EA, and TRI.
- Assists with RTLA program support, ranging from plot allocation to data collection and analysis to report writing.
- Supports LRAM program by applying off-the-shelf technology and developing new technologies to repair lands damaged by military activities.
- Supports EA by providing educational resources to assist leaders, soldiers, and civilians in understanding the importance of military and natural resource missions.
- Supports TRI by bridging the gap between natural resource management and the military mission.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with experience in spatial analysis and a skill set comprised of computer science, cartography, graphic arts, and database management.
- Substitution of experience for education may be considered with government approval.
- Understanding of Air Force Test Center and DoD regulations and guidelines.
- Broad knowledge of test facilities, instrumentation, and test environments supporting 96 TW, OSD, and DOD missions.
- Knowledge of DoD systems and acquisition program management concepts; AF Test and Evaluation philosophy, principles, and practices; USAF budget process/financial management; and the operation and maintenance of R&D test resources.
- Ability to quickly understand customers' technical objectives and provide elective solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer interaction/presentation capabilities.
- Dedication to the mission of the 96TW and high standards of quality and excellence in performance.
- Willingness to work effectively alone, unsupervised, or within a group.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%.
- US Citizenship required.
- Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance required.
