About the role

The candidate will assist in the daily operations of planning practices and games for the Girls Varsity Soccer team.

Qualifications

  • Must meet the requirements of the Commissioners of Education Regulations Section 135.4 governing coaching of interscholastic teams.
  • Must hold a valid certificate in NYS Coaches' First Aid and CPR/AED as issued by the American National Red Cross, or meet equivalent requirements prior to appointment.
  • Must complete Concussion Protocol training.
  • Previous coaching and/or playing experience at the high school or college level in soccer is highly desirable.
  • A member of the Grand Island Teachers Association (GITA) will be given first right to acceptance or refusal of the position. If no unit member qualifies, the district may fill the position outside the bargaining unit.

Regulations

Under Section 135.4 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education (August 1982), coaching personnel may include:

  • Persons who hold a valid certificate as a teacher of physical education (may coach any athletic team for which the chief school officer determines they are qualified).
  • Persons certified in areas other than physical education who have coaching qualifications and experience satisfactory to the Board of Education.
  • Persons who hold no teaching certificate but have coaching qualifications and experience satisfactory to the Board of Education.

Note: Education Law requires all coaches to possess a valid Coaches' First Aid and Personal Safety Certificate, and it is the coach's responsibility to keep the certificate current.
