Directly responsible to the Director of Athletics and the CRLS Principal. The coach must utilize sound educational principles and goals to ensure athletics are a worthwhile part of the overall school program.

Responsibilities

  • Model the behaviors outlined in the National Federation Coaches Code of Ethics, especially those pertaining to sportsmanship.
  • Have full control of the team in all matters pertaining to coaching and athletic discipline.
  • Implement CRLS Athletic Department policies and team rules.
  • Be responsible for the information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Blue Book and the CRLS Student Handbook.
  • Supervise all assistant coaches, both paid and volunteered.
  • Attend all Athletic Department and CRLS meetings that deal directly with the sport coached, including College Recruiting nights, Facilities and Fields meetings, and Athletic Awards meetings.
  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect the sport.
  • Be present at each practice session and at all contests of the sport coached, including supervision of the weight room, locker room, and shower areas until secured before and after practices and contests.
  • Scout future opponents.
  • Develop an organized written practice plan to include adequate warm-up and cool-down procedures on a daily basis.
  • Ensure facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed.
  • Implement game plans.
  • Review and assist in the processing of medical forms, parent consent forms, and eligibility/progress reports.
  • Give personal support to the entire CRLS staff, including Deans, Teachers, and the Friends of Cambridge Athletics.
  • Establish avenues of communication with community members involved in youth sports to encourage participation at the high school level.
  • Develop an approach to coaching that encourages outreach to parents and other adults who care about the athletes (e.g., booster clubs).
  • Ensure athletes participate in the Seasonal FOCA Fundraising event.
  • Organize and instruct clinics for youth teams and coaches of the sport.
  • Directly supervise squad members at home and away contests.
  • Supervise all team members transported by school buses, ensuring they travel to and from games and practices via school transportation.
  • Be responsible for the distribution and collection of school athletic equipment before, during, and after the season, and compile inventory.
  • Communicate and report game results and information to media and the Athletic Director; return officials’ vouchers immediately following contests.
  • Assist the Director of Athletics with security by restricting key handling to coaching staff only.
  • Have awareness of school athletic awards policy and procedures; distribute athletic awards in accordance with school policy.
  • Assist student-athletes in securing financial aid or college scholarships based on athletic ability.
  • Maintain current knowledge of NCAA and NAIA recruiting policies, regulations, and admission requirements.
  • Perform other duties/responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Previous successful playing and/or coaching experience required.
  • Current CPR/AED & First Aid Certification.
  • Online Concussion Education Certification.
  • Online Implicit Bias Education Certification.
  • Fulfillment of the MIAA Coaches Education Requirements and state requirements.
  • Completion of CORI Form and fingerprinting background check is mandatory.

Pay

Flat rate of $3,954.00 for the contract period. Payments are submitted to the payroll office two times per season: the first payment in the middle of the season and the second payment at the end of the season.

Schedule

Length of contract: July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
