Gifts & Contract Financial Analyst (FINANCIAL ANL 2 CX)
About the Role
The Financial Analyst will provide analytical support for the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) under the general supervision of the Financial Services Manager. This role serves as an internal specialist on policy and procedures for gifts, endowments, and other non-operational funding sources. Responsibilities include financial organization, administration, and analytical support through ad-hoc reports, Excel spreadsheets, and monthly financial updates to leadership. The position also manages all contract administration (e.g., service/repair, supply, loans) in collaboration with VMTH managers, Supply Chain Management staff, and external vendors. The role operates with high independence and may direct support staff workflow in the absence of the Financial Services Manager.
Responsibilities
- 60% Financial Management & Analysis of Gifts & Non-Operational Funding:
- Analyze and report on endowment, gift, and other non-operational funding sources.
- Maintain Excel spreadsheets and provide monthly financial updates to the Chief Veterinary Medical Officer, Hospital Administrator, and Service Chiefs.
- Investigate financial questions, analyze complex data, and develop solutions to specific problems.
- 30% Contract Management:
- Oversee all contract management (e.g., service/repair, supply, loans) in collaboration with VMTH managers, Supply Chain Management staff, and vendors.
- 10% Lead Financial Department:
- Provide leadership and decision-making support, including participation in recruitment, selection, and training of personnel.
- Direct support staff workflow in the absence of the Financial Services Manager.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or finance, or equivalent experience.
- Experience using Excel for complex financial analysis (e.g., PivotTables, VLOOKUPs), word processing, email, and web-based financial/payroll systems.
- Accounting experience analyzing, approving, and recording financial transactions, and verifying expenditure appropriateness.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to gather information, analyze complex data, and develop solutions.
- Ability to multitask in a high-volume environment, adapt to changing priorities, and organize workflow effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for preparing reports and interacting professionally with staff at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Aggie Enterprise, Cognos, and the Veterinary Medical and Administrative Computer System (VMACS).
- Knowledge of University and campus policies, particularly accounting practices, extramural funds, and business contracts.
- Experience working in a university setting, especially within UC clinical education organizations.
- Understanding of UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital’s financial policies and practices related to budgeting, accounting, extramural funding, and contracting.

Schedule
- Hybrid position: In-person Monday–Thursday (8:00 AM–5:00 PM), remote on Fridays.
- Occasional overtime may be required, including covering staff shortages.
- Restricted time off in June and July due to fiscal year-end close.

This is a career appointment at 100% time with union representation (CX-Clerical/Admin) and benefits eligibility. The position is contingent upon clearing a criminal background check and may include drug screening, medical evaluation, and functional capacity assessment.
