Responsibilities
- Support classroom teachers in developing and implementing enrichment and extension opportunities through consultation and push-in services.
- Provide gifted learners with opportunities to engage collaboratively in learning experiences characterized by depth, rigor, and cognitive challenge beyond what is typically appropriate in the general education classroom, while attending to the unique social-emotional needs of gifted students.
- Participate in all aspects of gifted identification and program development, including student placement, adherence to Chapter 104 identification criteria, and compliance with Maine Department of Education guidelines.
- Design and provide flexible, individualized, and differentiated learning experiences that meet the unique needs of gifted learners and foster advanced cognitive development and creativity across disciplines.
- Use innovative instructional practices that demonstrate an understanding of intellectual rigor, depth, complexity, acceleration, higher-order questioning, open-ended tasks, novelty, and the role these elements play in creating a dynamic learning environment.
- Create a classroom environment in which gifted learners feel safe to use their strengths, explore their personal and interpersonal development, and take intellectual risks.

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, specialists, administrators, and families to support the needs of gifted students.
- Knowledge of and experience with:
- Creativity and strategies that foster inquiry and innovation.
- The cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics, needs, and challenges associated with gifted learners.
- Culturally responsive practices that support students from diverse backgrounds.
- Assessment and evaluation strategies that promote high-level learning, provide opportunities for student choice and authentic demonstrations of mastery, and engage learners in self-assessment.
- A range of effective service delivery and program models designed to meet the needs of gifted learners.
Qualifications
- A thorough understanding of gifted learners and the field of gifted education.
Skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, specialists, administrators, and families.
- Experience with innovative instructional practices.
- Understanding of culturally responsive practices.
- Experience with assessment and evaluation strategies.
