About the role
The GI Lab Technician assists the gastroenterologist and/or surgeon with various gastrointestinal procedures and provides patient care in the clinical setting, focusing on bedside cases performed in the ER and ICU units.
Responsibilities
- Aid in preparing patients for procedures and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Assist with the insertion and removal of endoscopic instruments and equipment.
- Provide direct patient care during procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
- Care for, clean, handle, and perform preventive maintenance on endoscopic equipment and instrumentation.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Necessary skills: Knowledge of patient care, medical terminology, aseptic techniques, acute and chronic disease processes, standard precautions, and anatomical structures.
- Required certifications: BLS.
- Experience: 1-2 years as a Surgical Tech, GI Tech, Medical Assistant, CNA, Patient Care Associate, Corpsman, or similar medical experience.
- Prioritize: Two or more years working in a healthcare environment as a GI Tech or Patient Care Associate.
- Preferred certifications: Certified Endoscope Reprocessor.
