GI Lab Technician- Wyatt GI Center
The WYATT GI Procedural Center of the Tucson Medical Center will open in September 2026 and is currently recruiting. Our state-of-the-art Wyatt Gastroenterology Procedural Center is located on the Tucson Medical Campus at 2424 N. Wyatt Dr., directly next to the hospital. The center specializes in outpatient adult gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies and upper endoscopies.
About the role
This is a full-time, Monday through Friday day position with no call, weekends, or holidays required. The role involves performing assigned nursing care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and assisting with unit-specific tasks to maintain equipment and the procedural environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide sensitivity to patient’s comfort and privacy and express interest in their progress.
- Assist physicians with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
- Identify and care for specimens.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration, and pulse.
- Monitor clinical condition of patients and report changes to appropriate personnel.
- Clean and prepare rooms between procedures to ensure minimal turnover time.
- Return supplies, instruments, and equipment to proper locations.
- Maintain adequate supply levels in procedure rooms, clean, and stock procedure rooms.
- Identify and select appropriate scopes for each procedure.
- Answer call lights in a timely manner.
- Assist with the instructional needs of patients and explain information regarding techniques to enhance comfort during procedures.
- Evaluate outcomes of patient care, consult with registered nurses as required, and adjust nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care; participate in the development and implementation of the patient care plan.
- Enter patient information into the computer and ensure accurate entry of patient charges.
- Safely assist patients during discharge.
- Package equipment for sterilization.
- Perform biological and chemical monitoring in accordance with quality assurance standards.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to chemical spills in the GI Lab.
- Adhere to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards.
- Manually brush and leak-test scopes; operate automated scope washers.
- Troubleshoot scope washer malfunctions and arrange for repairs.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Six months of patient care experience preferred, preferably in a GI Lab.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Skills
- Knowledge of patient care protocols and practices.
- Knowledge of general patient care methods and regulations.

- Skill in cleaning, processing, and care of scopes used in the GI Lab.
- Ability to recognize a patient in distress and follow directions to get assistance.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
- Ability to speak effectively in front of doctors, nurses, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts, concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption, and remember multiple tasks/assignments for long periods.
