Essential Functions
- Affords assistance during Endoscopic procedures.
- Performs personal care tasks such as assisting with bedpan, bathroom visits, transfers between bed, wheelchair, and stretcher, turning, and positioning patients.
- Escorts patients as necessary.
- Prepares rooms for procedures by setting up computers with patient details, making beds, and managing supplies.
- Cleans endoscopes using sterilization or high-level disinfection methods.
- Supports oxygen therapy by maintaining equipment, ensuring safety measures are in place, and caring for oxygen equipment.
- Takes and documents vital signs (pulse, respiration, blood pressure) in the medical record.
Physical Requirements
- Requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be capable of lifting and supporting 35 pounds to handle patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
- Must communicate effectively in English, demonstrating clear speech and understanding.
- Must possess manual and finger dexterity.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Surgical or GI Technology training is preferred, along with a Department of Facility Services certification (NA I or NA II).
- BLS certification is required according to policy guidelines.
- Completion of the SGNA GI Associates Program is mandatory within six months of employment.
- Maintain at least six educational contact hours annually in the GI field of study.
- Computer skills are preferred.
