Geriatrics Section Chief

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day clinical leadership; ensure reliable coverage, scheduling, and resource utilization; implement departmental standards; monitor section-level quality, safety, access, and efficiency metrics.
• Maintain section financial outcomes and partner with department leadership to address key performance and variance drivers in support of site/program financial viability.
• Lead section-level quality improvement and patient safety efforts; participate in peer review; identify trends or risks early and escalate appropriately.
• Support teaching and scholarly activity; collaborate with program directors; align section-level academic efforts with departmental priorities.
• Manage section operations within defined parameters; collaborate with nursing and administrative partners; ensure timely completion of compliance and administrative responsibilities.

Requirements

• Education: MD or DO from an accredited institution; Advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MBA) preferred but not required.
• Experience: Prior leadership experience required.
• Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: board certification in a relevant specialty; active, unrestricted medical license in Virginia.
• Other Minimum Requirements: Demonstrated clinical credibility and leadership capability.

Pay
