Geotechnical College Summer Intern

Your Role

As a Summer College Intern in our Ashland, VA office, you will directly play an integral role in the success of our organization and the early formation of your professional career. As part of this team, you will work under minimal supervision or in collaboration with our knowledgeable, dynamic staff on a wide variety of projects. We have two levels for interns.

Level 1 Interns (Freshman and Sophomores)

• Primarily assigned field tasks on construction materials testing projects
• Field observation, sampling and testing of construction materials
• Clear documentation of results
• Materials may include (but are not limited to) soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt and structural steel placement

Level 2 Interns (Juniors, Seniors and Graduate students)

• Mix of Level 1 tasks along with office assignments working alongside other professionals
• Assist in report creation
• Soil classification
• Other technical roles as directed by a professional

Requirements

• Commitment to work at least 10 weeks during the summer months (weeks do not have to be contiguous)
• Reliable vehicle for construction sites, valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
• Participation in a pre-employment drug screening and background check
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 60-80 pounds (soil and concrete samples, nuclear gauges, etc.)
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to perform basic mathematical procedures and use measurement tools
• Civil Engineer (Geotechnical) students highly desirable but other Geology or Engineering disciplines are encouraged to apply
