Geomaticist
About the role
We are seeking a Geomaticist/Survey Technician to join our team in Houston or Austin, TX. This role applies technical expertise to a variety of field and office-based geomatics tasks, including surveys, data processing, and analysis.
Responsibilities
- Perform research and assist with boundary analysis and survey calculations under direct supervision of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor.
- Reviews and interprets field notes, process field survey data, extract features from point clouds and prepare accurate survey mapping deliverables.
- Prepare legal descriptions, exhibits and plats.
- May assist technical professionals by writing preliminary reports and cost estimates, and man-hour estimates for projects.
- Coverage and direction of technicians or support staff as needed.
- Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
Requirements
- Must be proficient in CAD software – AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Open Roads Designer.
- Must be proficient in conducting research, processing field data, preparing topographic and boundary surveys, ROW mapping, writing metes and bound descriptions, and performing survey calculations.
- Excellent communications skills (verbal and written, including technical writing); analytical ability; proactive attitude; ability to innovate and improvise.
- Ability to make logical on the fly decisions based on a Geomatics background.
Preferred skills
- Ability to operate field equipment and GIS based software.
- Data processing experience using Trimble Business Center; data extraction using TopoDOT and/or Leica Cyclone.
- TxDOT survey experience is a plus.
- Experience with other states' standards is a plus.
Education and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Geomatics, Engineering, Land Surveying, or related discipline, plus two years post-bachelor's professional experience as a Geomaticist or Survey Technician.
- Must be proficient with survey calculations, CAD, and GIS.
Professional registration
- LSIT required.
