About the Role

This position is responsible for geologic evaluations to support world-class exploration, development, and operations of geothermal resources globally. The role operates in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops quality conceptual models of geothermal systems through analysis and interpretation of datasets, including geochemistry, surface and subsurface geology, well data, drilling data, remote sensing, and geophysics.
  • Performs geologic mapping with a focus on structure, alteration, mineralization, geomorphology, and rock-type distribution.
  • Models subsurface well targets, including planning directional wells, and collaborates with drilling engineers, project managers, and operations to execute drilling programs.
  • Manages multiple individual prospect developments from preliminary analysis to reservoir testing, utilizing project management skills to advance prospects through development phases.
  • Strategizes on exploration and development to maximize value according to company goals, making clear recommendations considering risk, uncertainty, and upside potential.
  • Maintains an exploration mindset, including working with multiple hypotheses, generating new prospects, defining risk and uncertainty, and evaluating prospect potential.
  • Manages data mining for all geoscience, well, and prospect-related information.
  • Owns the conceptual model for multiple operating geothermal reservoirs and collaborates with operations, reservoir engineering, geochemistry, and other departments to maximize value.
  • Provides geoscience inputs for permit packages and business initiatives.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders on drilling or exploration projects, including Operations, Business Development, Transmission, and Compliance.
  • Collects geochemistry samples for exploration projects as required.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Master of Science or Engineering in a relevant subject; a Doctorate degree is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the industry or related fields, typically with 2–10 years of experience.
  • Field mapping and structural geology experience.
  • Experience in geophysical and geochemical surveys and analysis is advantageous.
  • Project management experience preferred, ideally under the PMI framework (CAPM or PMP qualification).
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications.
  • Proficiency in technical specialist applications, including ArcGIS, ENVI, Global Mapper, Leapfrog, and Surfer.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English at a proficient level; additional languages (e.g., Spanish, Bahasa) are advantageous.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently.
  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to Ormat’s auto insurance carrier.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office environment, using a computer and monitor for extended periods with repetitive motion.
  • Ability to work in a power plant and wellfield near hot pipes, drilling rigs, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to navigate and work in remote field locations and outdoors in difficult weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk, hike, and work on steep, rough terrain for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate 4WD vehicles on highways and off-road.
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to periodically lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, including internationally.
