About the role
The Geologist reports to the Senior Geologist and will be based at the Copper World Project in Helvetia, AZ, approximately 45 minutes southwest of Tucson. Additional fieldwork may be required at the Mason Project in Yerington, NV, 1.5 hours from Reno airport.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed logging of drill core using tablets or laptops, recording lithology, alteration, structures, veining, and mineralization.
- Ensure drill rigs are properly oriented as specified by the Senior Mine Geologist or designate.
- Coordinate with the Chief Mine Geologist or Senior Geologist to decide on ending drill holes or deepening drill holes based on results and drilling conditions.
- Record geotechnical data including RQD, rock hardness, and magnetic susceptibility.
- Conduct geologic field mapping and sample collection.
- Confirm that core sampling by core cutters is done safely and to high quality standards.
- Update and validate drill databases.
- Use computer software and applications associated with geological assignments.
- Perform blast holes sampling as needed.
- Comply with the Company's Safety Awareness program and office or field safety policies.
- Perform daily safety audits at drill rigs.
- Perform other related geological work as required.
- Operate a company vehicle as needed.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, mining or related discipline from a four-year accredited college or University, or demonstrated equivalent.
- Experience: One (1) to two (2) years of experience in the geological field, drilling, exploration, or mine.
- Preferred Qualifications: Current MSHA certification, experience logging drill core, experience with porphyry copper and copper skarn deposits, basic knowledge of mining software like MinePlan, Leapfrog, Acquire.
Qualifications
- Physical Demands: Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and pass a physical and drug screening.
