Genetic Counselor Specialist

Responsibilities

• Takes family histories
• Teaches genetic concepts
• Explains risks and benefits of various diagnostic procedures
• Facilitates a decision-making process for clients
• Documents sessions in letters to referring care providers
• Calls lab results
• Provides supportive, non-directive counseling
• Collects data and assists in the preparation of clinical case plans
• Prepares three-generation pedigrees
• Anticipates needs and obtains information for case management
• Coordinates care with appropriate departments
• Provides written and/or verbal communications
• Notifies primary care providers of abnormal test results
• Maintains communications with families through decision making and resolution
• Writes consultation letters within 48 hours after meeting with patients
• Reviews intake forms and documents all verbal communication and correspondence
• Acts as a resource to both hospital and community
• Develops goals for professional development
• Remains active in professional organizations
• Provides staff education as requested

Requirements

This is a non-exempt position providing supplemental work coverage with unpredictable hours and schedules. This is not a full-time or part-time budgeted position.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in genetic counseling
• Licensure: Genetic Counselor License required
• ABMG/ABGC certification or eligibility

Pay

Pay Range: USD $40.43 - USD $57.81 /Hr.
