Genetic Counselor I, Genomics Laboratory

About the role

The Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Genetic Counselor Level I to join our growing Genomics Laboratory. This is a full-time position supporting our expanding genomic testing program.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret variant information for exome and genome platforms and generate test reports.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and quality improvement projects for genomic laboratory operations.
  • Engage in research projects and ClinGen initiatives.
  • Teach and engage with students, fellows, and other trainees.
  • Communicate test results to patients/families, referring physicians, and other clinicians.
  • Coordinate and communicate all aspects of post-evaluation patient follow-up.
  • Write proper documentation of patient visits and letters.
  • Help coordinate genetics clinics and manage genetic testing of patients and family members.
  • Provide education on genetic disorders and resources to patients and families.
  • Participate in inpatient consultations and genetic counseling on-call rotations.
  • Perform necessary literature searches and integrate new discoveries with clinical diagnoses and test interpretation.
  • Generate written documentation/reports of test results and summaries.
  • Collaborate with laboratory management and clinicians to optimize genetic reference lab testing.
  • Assist with CPT coding for genetic tests to ensure regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Genetic Counseling or related field.
  • Current certification as a Genetic Counselor through the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
  • Experience in genetic counseling, preferably in a clinical setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and tailor information for diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of healthcare delivery and medical genetics.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Genetic Counseling or related field.
  • Experience in laboratory genetic counseling.
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations and quality improvement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong research and writing skills.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the hospital and the candidate.
