Genetic Counselor

Responsibilities

• Arranges collection of blood or other samples for clinical genetic testing.
• Assists in the treatment of patients and families with known genetic disorders and of patients at risk for the development of genetic disorders.
• Develops and implements genetic counseling services.
• Provides education and counseling and interprets results for genetically influenced cancers.
• Reviews patient information, evaluates family history, conducts risk assessment and recommends medical or genetic testing.
• Serves as liaison between patients and their referring physician.
• Participates in research, publication, education, and administrative projects as scheduled and directed from leadership.

Requirements

• Masters Degree in Genetics from an accredited College or University.
• High School Graduate Required.
• Licensure and Certification: Genetics - American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) upon Hire.

• Ability to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
