Department CC017704 MS Cancer Center Clinical Support Job Description Summary Position Responsibilities Assist in obtaining family and medical history and counsels patients and/or families in cases of genetic disorders or birth defects.Participate in shadowing opportunities to observe genetic counseling sessions and better understand patient interaction.Coordinates and researches all insurance coverage for genetic testing for patients. Researching the best tests based on patient’s insurance coverage. Prepares letters of medical necessity.Assists in the collection families in understanding genetic disorders in their families; probable course of the disorder, available management strategies, medical recommendations from the geneticist and recurrence risks.Documents in patient charts and develops follow-up recommendations for patient; documents cases and maintains appropriate records, ensuring confidentiality.Help manage and organize patient medical records, genetic testing reports, educational and related programs, and available resources as appropriate.Support post-clinic work, including uploading results, coordinating family variant testing and ensuring that all relevant information is properly recorded.Contribute to side projects such as the development of new smart phrase template or improving clinic workflows.Provide regular updates and feedback on the tasks and projects assigned. Engage in reflective learning by discussing experiences and challenges with supervisors and other team members.
