About the role
The Radar Analog and Power Department within Raytheon is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in generators, analog electronics, power electronics, power systems, and control systems.
Responsibilities
- Work with vendors to optimize generator systems based on system and customer requirements
- Provide support for legacy generator systems
- Collaborate with a team of engineers and vendors to develop designs based on system performance and operational specifications
- Analyze, simulate, test, and document power generation and conversion (and related analog) circuitry
- Resolve production and obsolescence issues related to existing generator product designs
- Support both in-field and reach-back troubleshooting, subsystem / component / benchtop repairs & regression testing
- Instrument and collect measurements on equipment (voltage, current, temperature) using electronic test and data acquisition equipment
- Present reviews of technical data to program leadership, technical staff, and customer community
- Manage related risk discussions
- Lead small teams to success with schedule, budget, and technical execution
- Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers
- Help to understand what opportunities are needed to mature the organization on the technical front
Requirements
- Requires a Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years’ of prior relevant experience
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in power generation, power system design, power conversion, power distribution, power sub-system design and/or control systems
- Experience in modeling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools
- Experience with safety issues related to working with and servicing rotating electromechanical systems and/or high voltage systems greater than 500VAC
Qualifications
- Fundamental knowledge of different types of electromagnetic rotating machinery (motors and/or generators)
- Experience with electric motor manufacturing processes such as stator windings, lamination stacking, stator varnishing, and various insulation classes
- Knowledge of synchronous and induction machine design of motors and generators
- Electromechanical experience with electric motors and generators, including collaboration with suppliers to identify COTS components and custom modifications as needed
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering
- Willingness to travel, both around the country and world in support of our programs and customers
- Hardware development experience in the Department of Defense (DoD) environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead/manage a technical team
- Experience generating technical documentation and reports
- Knowledge of test and production methods for electronics/power system components
- Experience interfacing with procurement and manufacturing as well as external suppliers to ensure proper implementation of product designs
- Experience interfacing with DoD customer community
