About the role

AgeSpan Volunteer Programs offer various opportunities for community engagement, including Family Caregiver Support, Mobile Market, Money Management Service, Nutrition Program, Long Term Care Ombudsman, SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone), and MA SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) Programs. Volunteers can choose programs based on their interests and availability.

Responsibilities

  • Family Caregiver Support: Support caregivers of older adults or grandchildren through listening, leading groups, helping at events, or problem solving in person or remotely.
  • Mobile Market: Assist with the assembly and distribution of brown bags filled with free groceries for low-income individuals.
  • Money Management Service: Work with older adults to develop basic money management skills such as paying bills, budgeting, and writing checks.
  • Nutrition Program: Deliver nutritionally balanced meals to homebound older adults and adults with disabilities throughout the Merrimack Valley.
  • Long Term Care Ombudsman: Advocate for the rights and needs of residents in assisted living, nursing, and rest homes by working with program staff.
  • SHINE: Provide unbiased, confidential information to Medicare beneficiaries to help them understand their health insurance options.
  • MA SMP: Provide outreach and education to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries, family members, and caregivers on how to protect, detect, and report healthcare errors, fraud, and abuse.
  • Other Opportunities: Assist with administrative tasks and projects such as filing, typing, mailings, and data entry.
