General Utility

About the Role

The General Utility position maintains kitchen work areas, equipment, plateware, and utensils in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. Assists in food preparation procedures and fosters a culture aligned with the TSFR Roadmap, including Our Core Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Core Values.

Responsibilities

• Scrapes and pre-rinses food from dirty dishes and places them in dishwashing machine (50%).
• Washes pots, pans, and trays by hand and/or machine (15%).
• Completes all assigned prep work (10%).
• Removes trash and garbage to dumpster area (10%).
• Washes work area tables, walls, refrigerator equipment, cooking equipment, and floors (5%).
• Cleans garbage cans and trash receptacles (5%).
• Assembles, maintains, and breaks down dish machine (5%).
• Transports cases up to 50 pounds up to 20 times per day.
• Places plates, utensils, pans, and cases on both high and low shelves.
• Works indoors (90%) and outdoors (10%).
• Able to respond in emergency situations to avoid imminent danger to self and others.

Requirements

Language Skills

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, walk, use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, and reach with hands and arms.
• Subject to wet floors, temperature extremes, and loud noise.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, and carry dish racks weighing up to 40 pounds on a regular and continuing basis.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and move from area to area.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

• Frequently required to work in a team environment and handle a fast-paced environment.
• Must be flexible and willing to accept change.
• Must have the ability to communicate with others, both verbally and in writing.

Work Environment

• On occasion, may need to travel in an automobile to other locations, either alone or accompanied by a co-worker.
• Works frequently in a hot and damp environment.
