General Utility

Position Summary

The General Utility position maintains kitchen work areas, equipment, plateware and utensils in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. Assists in food preparation procedures. Fosters a culture aligned with the TSFR Roadmap, including Our Core Purpose, Vision, Mission and Core Values.

Essential Job Functions

• Scrapes and pre-rinses food from dirty dishes and places them in dishwashing machine (50%*)
• Washes pots, pans and trays by hand and/or machine (15%*)
• Completes all assigned prep work (10%*)
• Removes trash and garbage to dumpster area (10%*)
• Washes work area tables, walls, refrigerator equipment, cooking equipment and floors (5%*)
• Cleans garbage cans and trash receptacles (5%*)
• Assembles, maintains and breaks down dish machine (5%*)
• Transports cases up to 50 pounds up to 20 times per day
• Ability to place plates, utensils, pans and cases on both high and low shelves
• Works indoors (90%*), outdoors (10%*)
• Works frequently in a hot and damp environment
• Able to respond in emergency situations to avoid imminent danger to self and others

Physical and Mental Requirements

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, walk, use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects and reach with hands and arms. Subject to wet floors, temperature extremes and loud noise. Must be able to bend, stoop, lift and carry dish racks weighing up to 40 pounds on a regular and continuing basis. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and move from area to area. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Psychological Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to work in a team environment, handle a fast-paced environment and be flexible and willing to accept change. Must also have the ability to communicate with others, both verbally and in writing.

Work Environment: On occasion, to perform the work it may be necessary to travel in an automobile to other locations in the field either alone or accompanied by a co-worker.
