General Utility

Position Summary

The General Utility position maintains kitchen work areas, equipment, plateware and utensils in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. Assists in food preparation procedures. Fosters a culture aligned with the TSFR Roadmap, including the Core Purpose, Vision, Mission and Core Values.

Primary Duties

• Scrapes and pre‑rinses food from dirty dishes and places them in the dishwashing machine (50%).
• Washes pots, pans and trays by hand and/or machine (15%).
• Completes all assigned prep work (10%).
• Removes trash and garbage to the dumpster area (10%).
• Washes work‑area tables, walls, refrigerator equipment, cooking equipment and floors (5%).
• Cleans garbage cans and trash receptacles (5%).
• Assembles, maintains and breaks down the dish machine (5%).
• Transports cases up to 50 lb up to 20 times per day; places plates, utensils, pans and cases on both high and low shelves.
• Works indoors (90%) and outdoors (10%) in a hot and damp environment.
• Responds to emergency situations to avoid imminent danger to self and others.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret contracts, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Physical Demands: Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms; subject to wet floors, temperature extremes and loud noise; must bend, stoop, lift and carry dish racks up to 40 lb regularly; stand for long periods and move between areas; close vision and ability to adjust focus are required.
• Psychological Demands: Work in a team environment, handle a fast‑paced setting, be flexible and willing to accept change; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Work Environment

The work environment includes frequent exposure to wet floors, temperature extremes, and loud noise. Employees may need to travel by automobile to other field locations, either alone or with a co‑worker. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities, provided they do not create undue hardship.
