Reports to: Production Manager

About the Role

In this position, you will perform, process, and support the Offset/Offline Operation in three specific areas: Press Room, Folder/Gluer, and/or Material Handling.

Responsibilities

  • Receive product from Press, stack and place on pallets.
  • Pull product from press, stack and place on pallets.
  • Print pallet labels with Pecas.
  • Find all information needed on job docket and set-up sheet.
  • Ensure correct loading of product onto pallets for Material handling.
  • Ensure quality of jobs completed by reviewing for quality and accuracy; make sure jobs are complete and error-free.
  • Inform Operators of any problems.
  • Ensure finished product appears to be of highest quality, accurately printed, completed, and free of errors.
  • Pull product samples according to company procedures and send to Quality Auditors as required.
  • Notify Operator immediately of any problems and/or errors.

Downtime

  • Web the press.
  • Assist Operators when the press is down.
  • Clean up press area, including mopping floors, walls, tables, cans, tanks, and areas behind the press.
  • Fill solvent cans, tank, and auto viscosity.
  • Fill varnish tank.
  • Help set-up cylinders for the next job.
  • Help roll stand make blades, hand or cut down rolls.
  • Help in sort if the above is done and notify Operator.
  • Ensure correct set-up and breakdown of doctor blades using established instructions and procedures.
  • Properly remove/dispose of used doctor blades using all safety procedures.
  • After removal of used blades from press, dispose in safety container for used blades.
  • Clean backup blade using correct water, solvent, or lacquer.
  • Remove holder to proper area in Pre-Make Department.
  • Set up new doctor blades according to policies and procedures ensuring all measurements are correct and blade is in proper position.

Make-Ready

  • Ensure all product is purged from stacker and tables.
  • Assist in changing impression rollers.
  • Assist in putting tools in press, changing tab breaker section, tear down, and put pump together.
  • Separate the different sections of the press from tab section to cutter.
  • Change cylinders, pump out inks, fill solvent containers.
  • Remove and/or install print unit cassettes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain and follow all company policies and procedures for OHSE, personal protection, and hazard materials/waste handling.
  • Follow all personal protection procedures by using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times in designated areas.
  • Follow established procedures and guidelines for handling and disposal of hazardous materials/waste.
  • Maintain and wear proper uniform according to company policies.
  • Use company-provided safety lifting equipment (e.g., hoist, jacks, vacuum manipulators).
  • Regularly examine work areas to maintain a safe and neat condition, including proper grounding and cleanup of ink and solvent containers.
  • Properly store and arrange work area to maintain cleanliness and a safe environment following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain work area in safe and proper working order, including cleaning press area, mopping floors, emptying rag, blade, and trash cans.
  • Understand OHSE obligations, actively support the policy, and implement guiding principles in everyday activities.
  • Comply with cGMP, HACCP Food Safety Requirements, and Chain of Custody Program Requirements.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Press Crew to meet production and team goals.
  • Interact with operators, co-workers, and staff in a respectful, cooperative, and courteous manner.
  • Communicate accurate information to all team members professionally and respectfully.
  • Exhibit willingness to assist in completing work, such as relieving for breaks or helping on other machines when required.
  • Be dependable in attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform any additional tasks as required or requested by Department Leads, Shift Leads, Operators, or Management.

Gluer (if applicable)

  • Perform tasks such as feeding product into the folder/gluer, packing, and palletizing.
  • Print pallet labels with Pecas.
  • Find all information needed on job docket and set-up sheet.

Forklift Driver (if applicable)

  • Maintain and support press operation through safe and effective material handling.
  • Operate and maintain forklift vehicles to ensure proper material moving and forklift operation.
  • Load and unload pallets, waste, and record/weigh recyclable material.
  • Maintain annual certification for correct procedures and operation of lift equipment.
  • Use lift truck to move loads of raw materials, in-process stock, or finished goods throughout the facility.
  • Spot check load for correct labels and codes, and neatness; place loads in designated warehouse areas.
  • Support Press by checking the schedule board for upcoming jobs and ensuring sufficient materials.
  • Remove waste container, changing over full containers to maintain an empty container at press at all times.
  • Remove waste and cores from press, weigh, and put on trucks for recycling.
  • Supply corrugate, pallets, and bundler film at the delivery end of the press.
  • Ensure all material is in designated areas.
  • Remove finished loads of product from the delivery end of the press.
  • Ensure proper installation of battery charging equipment and battery replacement according to company policies.
  • Connect new battery using hoist equipment; charge batteries outside the lift truck.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including a daily lift truck inspection form.
  • Operate all equipment safely to avoid damage to company property or customer product.
  • Report any accidents, injuries, and near misses.

Requirements

  • High School diploma (or GED).
  • One to three years of related production experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Very good mechanical and physical ability.
  • Lift truck operators must have and maintain safety training for operation of all company equipment.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, stooping, bending, reaching, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and speaking.
  • Ability to hold, touch, feel, and manipulate product and equipment safely.
  • Manual dexterity required.
  • Use of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to rotate shifts as required and work in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week when necessary.
