General Surgery RN
Position Purpose
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Inpatient General Surgery unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced Med/Surg environment, focusing on post-operative recovery, ongoing assessment, and coordination of care.
What You Will Do
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to post-operative general surgery patients, including assessment, pain management, wound care, and monitoring for complications.
- Collaborate with surgeons, hospitalists, case management, and interdisciplinary teams to support patient progression, recovery, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and families on post-surgical care, medications, activity restrictions, and recovery expectations to promote safe transitions.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate’s degree in Nursing.
- Valid RN license in Connecticut.
- Ideal candidates will have one or more years of General Surgery, Med/Surg, or Acute Inpatient nursing experience.
Preferred
- BLS/CPR certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
Important Consideration
This role is not designed for new graduates or those seeking training through General Surgery and Med/Surg Nursing.

- 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends and holidays
- Hourly Staff RN position
- Pay range: $36.15 – $59.95/hour
