General Superintendent - Sports Arena

About the role

AECOM Hunt is hiring General Superintendents to lead field execution for large, complex sports venues—new-build and major renovations of stadiums, arenas, and training facilities. You will orchestrate multi-prime trade delivery across structural, enclosure, MEP/FP, technology, and specialty sports systems to achieve safety, quality, and schedule certainty. As the senior field leader, you will mentor superintendents and foremen, coordinate with project management, designers, and the owner, and deliver event-ready facilities. Positions can be located in the mid-west and eastern United States.

Lead a team of superintendents, general foremen, and field engineers; drive accountability and performance. Champion a zero-incident culture. Implement construction plans in active venues and urban settings; coordinate emergency and severe-weather plans. Manage field operations strategies for MEP, structural, roofing, façade, and more, including night/weekend work windows, deliveries, laydown, and just-in-time sequencing.

Responsibilities

• Implement construction plans in active venues and urban settings; coordinate emergency and severe-weather plans.
• Manage field operations strategies for MEP, structural, roofing, façade, and other trades, including night/weekend work windows, deliveries, laydown, and just-in-time sequencing.

Requirements

• Minimum: BS in Engineering/Construction Management and 12 years of Superintendent experience, or AA/AS and 14 years of relevant experience, or HSD/GED and 16 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education.
• 4 years of demonstrated leadership experience.
• Valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Successful experience in the construction of large public-assembly or sports venues.
• Proven experience delivering at least one major sports venue (e.g., ≥15,000-seat arena or ≥25,000-seat stadium) or comparable complex venue.
• Expert understanding of long-span steel/precast stadia, complex MEP/FP, life-safety/egress, bowl geometry/tolerances, and envelope waterproofing.
• Mastery of field planning and production control (look-ahead, takt/lean methods), crane planning, and heavy logistics in constrained sites.
• Proficiency with digital field tools (e.g., Procore), model/drawing review, and CPM alignment (e.g., P6).
• Strong communication and team leadership skills; decisive problem solver under schedule pressure.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with retractable roofs, large video boards/AV, broadcast suites, premium/hospitality fit-outs, and foodservice programs.
• Experience executing work in active venues with tight event windows and public interfaces.
• Experience on union and open-shop projects and with large self-perform or multiple prime trade packages.

Physical Demands

• Physical stamina and mobility, including climbing ladders and stairs, using personnel hoists, and moving through various terrain and active construction zones.
• Vision requirements: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Capability to use hands to handle tools and materials, and perform activities such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Work Environment

Individuals in construction field roles work primarily on active job sites where exposure to environmental and job-related hazards is common, with or without accommodation. These environments may include:

• Proximity to heavy machinery and elevated work areas.
• Exposure to airborne particles, varying weather conditions, and potential electrical risks.
• Moderate to high noise levels depending on the phase of construction.
• Requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and remain alert to ensure safety.
