About the role
This position is based in the United States hybrid between remote and on project sites.
Responsibilities
- Studies specifications and drawings and collaborates with project managers and others to review, estimate, and schedule workforce requirements by project and local jurisdiction.
- Selects foremen for specific projects.
- Develops and implements site utilization plans and establishes crew sizes.
- Responsible for the project's overall progress.
- Interfaces with other departments to ensure the coordination and scheduling of labor, and the delivery of equipment and materials to support project schedules.
- Creates, reviews, and updates project schedules and three-week look ahead scheduling.
- Coordinates effective pre-construction planning sessions, project startup meetings, and project site meetings.
- Captures and communicates resources on all aspects of project work with management, crew, foremen, and project management teams.
- Assists the field on technical, installation, and code-related questions.
- Conducts regular project reviews and maintains records of project progress.
- Collaborates with project managers to review labor projections by project and local jurisdiction, control project costs, and maintain overall profitability for projects.
- Ensures crews have required work direction, resources, and support.
- Researches and recommends the most efficient means, methods, and techniques in performing work.
- Oversees daily construction activities and execution of the project life cycle at work sites.
- Inspects work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and to construction schedules.
- Manages site work and logistics efficiently, using LEAN methodology and continuous improvement approach to all efforts.
- Assists the field on technical, installation, and code-related questions.
- Coordinates plans and specifications with engineers, identifying and clarifying discrepancies.
- Communicates with management and engineering staff or inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve problems and improve construction methods.
- Works with subcontractors to complete projects within budgets and projected timeframes.
- Collaborates with the safety team to identify and correct unsafe working conditions.
- Edits and implements proactive safety measures per Company requirements and OSHA standards.
- Ensures employees follow all appropriate safety procedures and that safety audits are completed as required.
- Provides regular and high-quality hiring, communications, mentoring, coaching, problem-solving, and training to staff and other coworkers as needed.
- Advises and coaches employees and provides performance feedback regularly.
- Stays informed of new and changing Company procedures, policies, materials, technologies, techniques, and practices.
- Establishes, trains, and maintains policies and processes.
- Creates and maintains positive relationships and open communications with senior management, project teams, customers, sub-contractors, architects, vendors, other trades, union representatives, office, and field staff.
- Addresses personnel issues as they arise and involves the necessary resources to resolve problems.
- Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
- Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
- Promotes and models the Company mission, vision, and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and providing high quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in engineering, construction management, building construction, or a related field.
- Valid state electrical license preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years of electrical construction experience with concentration in large, complex commercial construction projects.
- Experience directly managing people preferred.
- Experience and knowledge of construction and general industry safety standards, including OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and NFPA 70E.
- Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices.
- Extensive knowledge of the electrical code and skills to read, interpret, and understand electrical contracts, plans, drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong experience and understanding of project management tools and practices.
- Thorough understanding of the project life cycle.
- Extensive training and experience with LEAN methodologies and applications.
- Conceptual ability to work with little information and quickly understand the owner/architect requirements.
- Demonstrated strong business analytical and mathematical skills.
