General Services - Maintenance

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance functions in an institutional environment.
• May include both preventative and repair services, requiring carpentry, automotive, masonry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, and mechanical knowledge.
• Works in a correctional institution and may require the ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
• Maintains constant regard for security and safety protocols.
• Complies with all rules and regulations within the correctional facility.
• Works in close proximity to inmates and must effectively diagnose maintenance issues.
• Adapts to changing conditions and circumstances and demonstrates a high level of initiative.
• Maintains an appropriate awareness of cost control and proper utilization of resources.
• Effectively prioritizes tasks and makes sound decisions.

Qualification Requirements

• Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in a trade of skilled labor position is beneficial.
• Experience and knowledge of corrections and institutional operations is preferred.
• Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment (snow plows, dump truck, tractor).
• A valid driver's license is required.
• A criminal history check will be completed.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, sit, talk, and hear.
• Occasionally required to use hands to use tools or controls, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Heavy lifting and strenuous labor is very common to assigned tasks.
• Specific visual abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
