About the Role

This position assists certificated staff in the Core Plus Construction class at Interlake High School to perform routine instructional and support tasks related to students’ educational development. Responsibilities

  • Adapt communication style to needs of students; provide support and assistance in classroom and non-classroom settings.
  • Assist with communication between student families as assigned.
  • Monitor the safe operation of construction equipment and power tools.
  • Perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting student progress within the construction classroom.
  • Work with small groups or individual students, including special needs students, to improve academic skills (e.g., math/reading).
  • Assist teachers in developing and preparing educational tools, materials, and strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Meet with students individually or in small groups to assist with lesson assignments and subject matter.
  • Reinforce listening, verbal, math, or reading skills (e.g., comprehension, vocabulary development).
  • Encourage integration of students into instructional and social activities; may accompany students on field trips.
  • Attend in-service training sessions and staff meetings to coordinate instruction and understand building goals.
  • Observe and record students’ progress on instructional objectives; maintain data and reports; adjust objectives as needed.
  • Help students develop a positive attitude about self, academic achievement, and school.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent, plus one of the following:
    • ETS Paraeducator Assessment,
    • Associate of Arts degree (original transcripts),
    • 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education (original transcripts), or
    • Completion of a registered apprenticeship program (certificate).
  • Foreign degrees accepted if evaluated by a NACES member company.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using power tools.

  • Knowledge of child development and a variety of reading/math methods.

Physical Requirements

  • Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

Pay

AISP pay range 3: $28.76 to $30.71 per hour (starting at $28.76 per hour).

Schedule

20 hours per week for a 180-day assignment.
