About the Role

This position provides instructional and non-instructional support in the school setting, assisting school staff as they focus on instructional initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direct supervision of a certificated, administrative, or classified staff member based on assigned duties.
  • Provide support to teachers with materials, supplies, and copying.
  • Perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting student progress within a classroom setting.
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students in a classroom setting as directed by a certificated staff member.
  • Record observations and data regarding student progress as directed by the classroom teacher or administrator.
  • Assist with before or after school activities and accompany groups of students on field trips and other outings.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development and training as required.
  • Support English Language Learners, requiring an understanding of their unique needs.
  • Work in an office or general school setting, including support for elementary school health clinics as assigned by the nurse.
  • Enter records regarding students as needed for the position.
  • Provide clerical and other support if assigned to a school office or non-classroom setting.
  • Supervise students in non-classroom settings, including lunchroom, playground, or crosswalks.
  • Supervise parking lots as required.
  • Collaborate with other staff members as required for the assignment.
  • Handle interruptions, perform or track multiple tasks simultaneously, and remain flexible under pressure.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • At least one of the following:
    • ETS Paraeducator Assessment,
    • Associate of Arts degree (original transcripts),
    • 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education (original transcripts), or
    • Completion of a registered apprenticeship program (certificate).
    Foreign degrees accepted if evaluated by a NACES member company.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a school setting.
  • Associate degree or equivalent.

Skills

  • Basic academic knowledge in core content areas with a focus on math and reading.
  • Understanding of child development and cultural/racial diversity.
  • Basic computer skills, including keyboarding and data entry.
  • Knowledge of basic safety, emergency procedures, hygiene, and cleanliness.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Effective organizing skills and ability to work in a team setting.
  • Maintain confidentiality with student and employee records.
  • Multicultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to perform duties in accordance with Board policies, district, and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet punctuality and attendance expectations.

Physical Requirements

  • Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
  • May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

Pay

AISP pay range P1-A: $24.66 per hour to $26.61 per hour (starting hourly rate is $24.66 per hour) based on the negotiated collective bargaining agreement.

Schedule

Work schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM, and Wednesday 8:45 AM to 1:30 PM (30.75 hours/week for a 192-day annual assignment).
