Responsibilities

  • Performs general inspections, troubleshooting and repairs assigned area(s).
  • Follows up on completed assignments ensuring equipment is working appropriately.
  • Responds to and repairs specialty systems, such as the nurse call system, fire alarm system, television system, medical gas system, and the ceiling system.
  • Completes preventive maintenance inspections in accordance to scheduled checkpoints and maintains documentation appropriately.
  • Assumes responsibility for any maintenance on laundry equipment, portable phones, pagers, beds, wheelchairs, surgical equipment, pneumatic tubes, SPD equipment, sterilizers, Telelifts and associated equipment within assigned area(s).
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience in commercial, industrial or hospital maintenance
  • Experience with all hand and power tools
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of residence
  • Trade school or company school with a license or certification when required by a Regulatory Agency or Ochsner Health System as job duties dictate in any of the following disciplines: pneumatics, steam, electrical, electronics, hydraulics, refrigeration, welding, plumbing or machine work

Qualifications

  • Self-directed with the ability handle the mental and physical stress/pressure to complete all jobs, including emergencies.
  • Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces for extended periods of time.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply effective judgment when performing job duties.
  • Must be able to work on-call for emergencies and extended hours.

Skills

  • Familiar with a wide range of skilled crafts including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, HVAC-R and carpentry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a can-do attitude.
  • Mechanically inclined with the ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of state, parish, and building codes, as well as JCAHO standards.
  • Strong skills reading, writing and understanding mechanical and electrical symbolisms to properly interpret blueprints, schematics specifications and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong skills handling power and hand tools required to perform job duties effectively.
  • Strong skills applying effective judgment when performing job duties.
  • Ability to work on-call for emergencies and extended hours.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
