About the role
This job responds to assigned departmental maintenance needs and is responsible for the execution of repairs or replacement of affected equipment in assigned area(s).
Responsibilities
- Performs general inspections, troubleshooting and repairs of minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing items within the hospital or clinic setting.
- Follows up on completed assignments ensuring equipment is working appropriately.
- Responds to and repairs specialty systems, such as, and not limited to, the nurse call system, fire alarm system, television system, medical gas system, and the ceiling system.
- Completes preventive maintenance inspections in accordance to scheduled checkpoints and maintains documentation appropriately.
- Assists with any maintenance on associated equipment within assigned area(s)
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Assists other Hospital and Clinic departments with daily maintenance and support services as needed
- Will assist with repairs and upkeep of facilities structures and building systems
- In the event of severe weather emergencies or disaster, personnel will be assigned a work area and remain onsite throughout the duration of the severe weather or disaster.
Requirements
- Required - 2 years of experience in Commercial, Industrial or Hospital Maintenance or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program
- Preferred - Healthcare experience
Qualifications
- Education - Required - High School diploma or equivalent
- Preferred - Trade school or company school
Skills
- Experience with all hand and power tools
- Familiarity with a wide range of skilled crafts including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, HVAC-R and carpentry
- Strong interpersonal skills with a can-do attitude
- Mechanically inclined with the ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of state, parish, and building codes, as well as JCAHO standards
- Self-directed with the ability handle the mental and physical stress/pressure to complete all jobs, including emergencies
- Able to work indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces for extended periods of time
- Basic knowledge of reading, writing and understanding mechanical and electrical symbolisms to properly interpret blueprints, schematics specifications and mechanical drawings
- Able to properly handle power and hand tools required to perform job duties effectively
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply effective judgment when performing job duties
- Able to work on-call for emergencies and extended hours
