THE ROLE

General Managers are responsible for all aspects of the team and the restaurant. Most importantly, General Managers create a culture of enjoyment and deep engagement for all employees. GMs are responsible for supporting every crew member and developing new leaders and managers who will move throughout the organization. They also ensure compliance with company and brand standards in all areas of operations, including food safety, production and food preparation, customer relations, restaurant maintenance and repair, inventory management, team training and management, recruiting, and financial accountability.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote the Roots culture actively to the entire crew, through example and focused communication, to ensure that your Roots Natural Kitchen is a special experience day-in and day-out for all employees
  • Be cheerful
  • Support your crew by listening and coaching
  • Show sensitivity to others (empathy) and take care of your crew
  • Exemplify Roots principles and instill them in others through recognition and validation
  • Identify, hire, train, and support a crew of highly engaged employees
  • Have a good understanding of who would be a good fit for Roots culture and hire the absolute best humans to join your crew
  • Work with the HR Department to post for new positions, onboard new hires, and maintain accurate employment records
  • Ensure your crew members receive excellent, hands-on training and are supported throughout the entire training process
  • Provide continuous, timely, and thoughtful feedback for all employees, and ensure other managers in the store are doing the same
  • Protect your culture and crew through needed terminations when someone is detracting from the experience and engagement of others
  • Have a relentless focus on providing incredible customer experiences and paying attention to all the details that make that possible
  • Smile and ensure your crew is friendly, attentive, and helpful
  • Participate in the customer experience by scheduling yourself on the line and in the back of house
  • Constantly train and ensure qualifications are maintained by all employees
  • Uphold standards through example and by validating performance
  • Build a culture of strong appreciation for food quality, and consistency - we should only ever serve food and meals we are 100% proud of. Otherwise do not serve it
  • Work and motivate the crew to take pride in keeping the restaurant very food safe, clean, and organized
  • Maintain all facilities and equipment with hyper-awareness of form and functionality, ensure proper preventative maintenance is being completed, and proactively and quickly deal with any repairs needed
  • Learn, qualify, and master all functional positions within the restaurant, including dish, grill, line, prep, and all administrative tasks
  • Execute your own, and train others to manage, shifts with a focus on creating amazing customer and employee experiences
  • Ensure your crew is hyper-aware of food safety practices and be diligent in ensuring all food safety standards are maintained all the time
  • Complete and oversee all day to day administrative work, including cash management, invoicing, check in-check out auditing, and daily checklists
  • Understand and diligently Manage your P&L to meet or exceed targets
  • Work with the marketing department to properly forecast sales on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, allowing you to properly staff, schedule, order, and prep
  • Understand and help crew understand that exceptional day-in, day out experiences will raise sales. We do control sales.
  • Diligently plan for and manage labor, ensuring adequate coverage needed for demand
  • Work with your Kitchen Manager to forecast and uphold proper food inventories, build prep lists and manage food costs on a weekly basis
  • Maintain productive relationships with suppliers, vendors, facility maintenance companies, and the landlord

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Must show empathy for fellow crew members and customers
  • Must bring friendliness and enthusiasm to each day
  • Must lead by example, through humility and resilience
  • Strong desire and proven track record of learning and coaching
  • Willingness to work a varied schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Prior management experience required - restaurant management preferred
  • Understanding of and experience with restaurant management software and the Microsoft Office Suite
