About the role
The General Manager/Chief Operating Officer (GM/COO) of Wellesley Country Club serves as the club’s strategic and operational leader, responsible for delivering an exceptional member experience and overseeing all day-to-day operations. This role blends high-level vision with hands-on management—guiding department heads, ensuring financial strength, maintaining premier golf, racquets, dining, and recreational facilities, and upholding the club’s culture and standards. Ultimately, the GM/COO is the driving force that keeps the club running smoothly, consistently elevating service, operations, and member satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Champion a positive, collaborative, and high-performing workplace culture that attracts, develops, and retains exceptional talent.
- Provide disciplined financial stewardship and strategic oversight of the Club’s operating and capital resources.
- Develop, implement, and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
- Support the Board in executing long-range strategic initiatives and annual business plans.
- Maintain a transparent and collaborative relationship with the Board, providing timely operational and financial reporting while proactively identifying opportunities and addressing challenges.
- Oversee all aspects of Club operations, ensuring seamless execution, exceptional service delivery, and alignment with the Club’s strategic objectives.
- Oversee communications and marketing initiatives, evaluate new products, services, and vendor partnerships, ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and facilitate effective communication across departments.
Requirements
- Demonstrates a passion for hospitality and a proven record of delivering exceptional service and leadership within premier private clubs, resorts, or luxury hospitality environments.
- Possesses a leadership style that aligns with Wellesley Country Club’s culture and values, fostering authentic and meaningful relationships with members, staff, and guests.
- Has a demonstrated history of successfully leading complex operations, managing expenses, and consistently achieving strategic and financial objectives.
- Values collaboration and relationship-building, with a reputation for thoughtful problem-solving, sound judgment, and achieving positive outcomes for all stakeholders.
- Brings a stable and progressive career history marked by increasing leadership responsibility and success within highly regarded clubs, resorts, or hospitality organizations.
- Maintains a visible, engaging, and approachable presence throughout the Club, creating meaningful connections with members, guests, and staff through genuine interaction and active involvement.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred, with a focus on Hospitality Management.
- Substantial private club or hospitality experience will be considered in lieu of the degree.
- Industry certifications such as CCM, CCE, CMC, or PGA are encouraged but not required.
