About the role
The General Manager ensures the trailer leasing location has the right trailers (storage, road, containers, etc.) to meet customer demands and comply with all Federal and State DOT requirements. This includes outsourcing work or managing repairs within WOW service centers. The role focuses on maintaining and growing the customer base to achieve market penetration and revenue goals, setting competitive pricing, and maximizing trailer utilization. The General Manager monitors operational metrics via a "Dashboard" to ensure targets are met and oversees the entire leasing process—from lease signing and insurance to invoicing and collections. They supervise staff, develop budgets in coordination with the CFO, and drive the financial performance of the location. Additionally, they strategize trailer inventory to anticipate growth, maintain the physical location, and evaluate real property needs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to place trailers, containers, and equipment on rent.
- Coordinate servicing and repair of trailers, containers, and equipment.
- Supervise a diverse team to provide first-class trailers to customers.
- Use invoicing software to ensure timely billing of trailer rentals.
- Develop team members to advance their skills and support organizational growth.
- Source trailers and assist in procuring assets to meet customer demands.
- Collaborate with other General Managers to share ideas and support customer needs.
- Provide data to the "Dashboard" and review it daily to maintain operational awareness.
- Monitor customer demands daily and work with the team to fill orders.
- Source NTUs (new trailer units) and work with Finance to complete purchases.
- Collect past-due payments from customers beyond payment terms.
- For locations with service centers, ensure the facility is equipped and operational.
- Interview and hire key personnel for the organization.
- Create, interpret, and work within budget requirements.
- Develop communication tools to keep the team informed of performance status.
- Resolve employee disputes or questions with appropriate parties.
- Lead safety initiatives to create and maintain a safe work environment.
- Maintain the physical location and evaluate real property needs as business dictates.
- Grow the customer base to achieve greater market penetration and revenue growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business management or a related field (preferred); High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Eight to ten years of experience in transportation, trailer service centers, or related marketing of transportation equipment.
- Current driver’s license.
